458 cyber crimes filed during lockdown
Mumbai : During the lockdown, some criminals and miscreants are trying to take advantage of the state.  The Maharashtra Cyber ​​Department has taken strict action against them.  A total of 458 cyber crimes have been registered in the state and 250 people have been arrested, said the Special Inspector General of Police, Maharashtra Cyber ​​Division.

A total of 458 crimes (out of which 27 are N.C.) have been registered in various police stations in the state of Maharashtra till June 05, 2020.

 When Maharashtra Cyber ​​analyzed all these crimes, it was found that 190 cases have been registered for forwarding offensive WhatsApp messages and 184 cases have been registered for sharing offensive Facebook posts.  There have been 23 cases of tiktok video sharing and 8 cases of offensive tweets via Twitter.  Four cases have been registered for posting wrong posts on Instagram.  A total of 49 cases of misuse of other social media (audio clips, youtube) have been registered and 250 accused have been arrested so far.  Of these, 107 objectionable posts have been takedown.

 A case has been registered at Phaltan police station in Satara district, bringing the total number of cases registered in the district to 14.  The accused in the case had spread rumors by sharing a post on his Facebook profile with misinformation about coronary artery disease, which had created fear and confusion among the people in the area.

Beware of misinformation, messages and posts

 Currently, during the lockdown period, many people are forwarding or sharing messages and posts on social media such as Facebook, WhatsApp, etc. with misinformation that different treatments have been prescribed in our Indian history to prevent the outbreak of the Corona epidemic.  Maharashtra Cyber ​​urges all citizens, please do not do any experiment on yourself or others in your household by believing in such messages and posts.  Also, verify the information in such messages from an expert doctor.  Such messages should not be forwarded, as spreading false information and rumors is a crime under the law, an appeal is being made by the Maharashtra Cyber ​​Department.
