Launch of coal mine at Adasa

Mumbai: Our country ranks fourth in the world in coal mining.  However, we import coal from abroad. The importance of coal in power generation is unique.  Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said that if we make full use of quality coal production capacity, the problem of power generation will be eliminated and uninterrupted power supply will be provided to the entire rural area at uninterrupted rates.

He was speaking on behalf of Western Coalfield at the inauguration of one coal mine at Adasa near Nagpur in Maharashtra and two in Madhya Pradesh today at the hands of the Chief Minister and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.  Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and Union Minister for Coal and Mines Pralhad Joshi also spoke on the occasion.  Bhandara District Guardian Minister Sunil Kedar, other people's representatives as well as officials of Western Coalfield were present on the occasion.

The Chief Minister launched the mine online by pressing the electronic key.  The Adasa mine is investing Rs 334 crore and will produce 1.5 million tonnes of coal.  550 people will get employment.

Uninterrupted power supply in rural areas

At this time, the Chief Minister said that for the last two or three months, we have all been fighting Corona.  It is as if your life has come to a standstill. You are giving a very good message by launching this coal mine which is a source of immense energy.  Stating that we have to include energy in food, clothing, shelter and other necessities of life, the Chief Minister said that so many years have passed since independence but we cannot say that the demands and expectations of farmers for electricity have been met one hundred percent.  We still want to completely shut down load shedding, provide affordable, uninterrupted power supply.  If good quality coal is produced, the problems of power generation will be solved in future.

Pollution should be reduced, mines should be environmentally friendly

Stating that the pollution caused by the coal mines is a matter of concern, the Chief Minister said that the dust emitted from the coal mines pollutes the surrounding environment and endangers the health of the people in the area, causing respiratory and other diseases.  The amount can be greatly reduced if the coal washing process is done properly to reduce the amount of ash in the coal.  Washers should be good for that.  When the coal mines are closed down after completion of production, it will help the environment to create a forest on the site by planting trees on it instead of leaving it alone.  He also said that the period for closure of coal mines should be fixed.

The Nagpur-Nagbhid broad gauge route, which has been stalled for many years, will also be launched soon.  The Chief Minister informed that the necessary preparations have been made by the state government in this regard.

14 mines to be started in Maharashtra

In the next four years, 14 mines are being started in Maharashtra and we have decided to start 3 of them this year. These mines will generate an investment of Rs 11,500 crore and provide employment to about 13,000 people, said Yavelo Western Coalfield.
